Our History

2000s In 2002, Elmar Window Fashions opens the Charlotte, North Carolina Sales & Service Center. 2005, sees the opening of a dedicated 25,000 square foot shutters facility in North Wales, PA. In 2006, Elmar celebrated 60 years of business, and effective January 25th, became a part of the Hunter Douglas group of companies.
1990s In 1990, Hunter Douglas Silhouette window shadings are introduced and Elmar begins to convert most of its brands over to Hunter Douglas. In 1996, Elmar purchases a 100,000 square foot building in Willow Grove, PA. In 1999, Elmar Window Fashions purchases Classico Window Fashions in Fairfield, NJ.
1980s In 1980, Craig C. Garretson purchases the company from James and Beatrice Watt and soon the business moves to a 15,000 square foot facility in Warminster, PA. Duette cellular shades and horizontal shades are added to fabrication.
1970s In 1973, James K. Watt becomes seriously ill. In his absence, Shirley G. McKay and Craig C. Garretson manage the company. In 1977, the company begins a gradual change from distributing to fabrication and becomes a licensed fabricator of Louver Drape vertical blinds.
1960s In 1962 the company moves to South and Paxson Avenues in Wyncote, PA and this is home for 19 years.
1950s
In 1954 James K. Watt purchases the company from William Agee (first owner) and expands the product offering to include drapery hardware.
1940s In 1946, Elmar Supply Company of Glenside, PA, begins as a wholesaler of 2" metal components and finished blinds.
